Real Food Without the Hassle

Fresh dog food sounds great — until you’re thawing it in the sink every morning. Sundays skips all of that.

It’s gently air-dried in the US, which locks in nutrition and flavor without needing a freezer, prep, or cleanup. Just scoop it straight from the bag into the bowl. It’s shelf-stable, mess-free, and easy to take on trips — built for real life with a dog, not a lab schedule.

I Love Every Dog readers: your dog’s next meal is one scoop away — and it’s 30% off your first order with Sundays For Dogs.

Where Do Fleas Actually Come From?

You keep a tidy home, wash your pup’s bed, and do your best to keep them clean. Yet fleas happen to the best of us and it isn't an indication that you (or your pup) have done anything wrong. Take a deep breath. These little pests are master hitchhikers with a knack for opportunistic timing.

The Great Outdoors

The most common scenario begins right outside your back door. Fleas thrive in warm, shaded, and humid environments. Wildlife like squirrels, raccoons, opossums, and stray cats often carry fleas into your yard, leaving behind eggs as they pass by. Flea larvae hatch in high-grass patches, under deck stairs, or beneath shady bushes, waiting for a warm body to brush past. And that's when they hitch a ride on your unsuspecting pup.

Friendly Pup Encounters

If your dog loves playing at the local dog park, visiting the groomer, or greeting neighbor dogs on daily walks, they’re in prime territory for a flea swap. A adult flea can leap over 100 times its length—making a jump from one playmate to another surprisingly easy. That's why flea prevention is important for all pups, but especially dog friendly or outgoing ones!

Hitchhiking Indoors

Fleas don't always wait for your dog to come to them. They can hitch a ride inside on you too. They do this via pant legs, socks, or shoes after you’ve worked in the garden or walked through tall grass. Once indoors, they quickly seek out a pet though they are also known to stick around on humans too.

How a Single Flea Turns Into a Problem

To understand how fleas take over so quickly, it helps to look at their rapid lifecycle:

  • The Initial Contact: An adult flea leaps onto your dog and begins feeding within minutes.
  • Rapid Reproduction: A single female flea can lay up to 50 eggs a day directly on your pet’s fur.
  • The Drop-Off: As your dog moves, wags, and sleeps, these smooth eggs roll off onto carpets, couch cushions, and dog beds.
  • The Cycle Repeats: Eggs hatch into larvae, form cocoons, and emerge as hungry new adults ready to leap back onto your pup.

Keeping Your Pup Comfortable and Flea-Free

Simple Steps for Prevention

  • Consistent Vet Care: Year-round preventative treatments are the absolute gold standard for stopping fleas before they start.
  • Target the Resting Spots: Wash your dog’s bedding, favorite blankets, and plush toys in hot water regularly.
  • Keep the Lawn Trimmed: Minimize shaded, overgrown hiding spots in your yard where wildlife frequents.
  • Vacuum Deeply: Pay extra attention to carpet edges, furniture seams, and beneath rug corners where flea eggs love to settle.

Discovering fleas can feel overwhelming, but remember that it's a very common, solvable bump in the road. With a quick trip to the vet and a good cleaning routine, your home will be cozy, itch-free, and full of tail wags again in no time.
