How to Prepare Your Dog for a Cozy, Safe Fall
Happy fall, everyone! Now that we are officially in the new season, we couldn't think of a better time to run through some prep for having a safe autumn with our best furry pals.
While autumn brings relief from summer's scorching heat, the changing season also introduces new routines, cooler temperatures, and unique safety considerations for our pups. With a few simple adjustments, you can make sure your dog stays safe, healthy, and cozy all season long.
Adjust Your Grooming & Coat Care
Summer coats are thinning out, and many breeds begin growing their thicker winter fur. To keep their coat healthy, keep these tips in mind:
- Ramp up the brushing: Frequent brushing removes shed fur, prevents mats, and helps distribute natural skin oils.
- Inspect paws after walks: Autumn walks bring damp leaves, mud, and hidden burrs that easily wedge between toe pads. Keep a towel near the door for quick post-walk wipe-downs.
- Protect against dry skin: Dropping humidity and indoor heating can dry out your dog's skin and paws. A pet-safe paw balm works wonders to keep pads soft and crack-free.
