If you tuned into Puppy Bowl XXII this past Sunday, you likely found yourself reaching for a tissue within minutes. Amidst the chaotic tumbles and adorable "ruff-housing," one tiny athlete stole the spotlight and refused to let go: Teigan, the Australian Shepherd mix with the bright blue wheels and a heart that simply knew no limits.

Representing Team Fluff, Teigan didn’t just play the game; she embodied the very reason the Puppy Bowl exists. While her teammates sprinted on four paws, Teigan zipped across the turf in a custom cart provided by K9 Karts, her spirit as fast and fierce as any pup on the field.

Teigan came to us from Perfect Imperfections Rescue and Sanctuary in Connecticut, a haven dedicated to "perfectly imperfect" dogs with special needs. Born with neurological challenges and a curved spine, she faced obstacles from her very first breath.

But to watch Teigan on screen was to see a dog who didn't know she was "different." Her foster mom, Trisha Malfitano, described her as a "trooper" with a zest for life that was absolutely contagious. Whether she was racing through autumn leaves at home or making her grand debut on the Animal Planet stage, Teigan’s joy was unconditional.

While viewers cheered for Teigan’s tenacity on Sunday, her appearance came with a poignant update. Tragically, Teigan passed away in late 2025—just weeks after filming her segment—due to complications from pneumonia.

Her rescue shared that seeing her on the "big screen" was a bittersweet experience, but one they felt was essential. Teigan wasn't just a puppy in a wheelchair; she was an ambassador for special-needs pets everywhere, proving that a disability doesn't dim a dog’s light—it often makes it shine even brighter.

Teigan’s story has sparked a wave of love across social media, reminding us all of the "underdogs" still waiting in shelters. This year's Puppy Bowl featured 15 special-needs dogs, highlighting that while these pups might require a little extra care, the love they return is immeasurable.
