A Fight for Freedom: The Story of Chami and Felicity

Imagine a life where your days are marked not by playful barks and belly rubs, but by isolation and fear. This is the tragic reality that Chami and Felicity, two gentle Beagles, have endured within a laboratory at Texas A&M University. Their story is a powerful call to action, highlighting the silent suffering of animals in research and the passionate fight to save them.

The Trauma Within the Lab

Chami's documented suffering paints a heartbreaking picture. For over seven months, she was kept isolated in a cage, exhibiting classic signs of distress and psychological trauma: spinning in frantic circles, soiling herself, and cowering in constant fear. Lab staff observed and documented her deteriorating mental state, but instead of receiving the psychological help and comfort she desperately needed, Chami was assigned to a painful, NIH-funded experiment that will ultimately end in her death.

Felicity, too, is trapped in this cycle of confinement and scheduled for a fatal experiment. Their plight is a stark reminder of the emotional toll laboratory life takes on intelligent, sentient animals.

A Whistleblower's Courage and a Legal Battle

Hope arrived when a brave whistleblower within the facility tried to intervene on Chami and Felicity’s behalf. Tragically, instead of being listened to, they were fired. This act of courage, however, set the stage for a critical legal intervention.

The Beagle Freedom Project (BFP), a dedicated non-profit organization focused on rescuing and finding homes for animals used in research, stepped in. They are now in court, fighting relentlessly to stop the impending experiments and secure the release of Chami and Felicity.

Their efforts have already achieved a vital, though temporary, victory: BFP won a Temporary Restraining Order (TRO), which currently blocks Texas A&M from experimenting on or killing the two dogs.

How You Can Help Make Freedom Permanent

The Temporary Restraining Order is a crucial pause, but it is only temporary. The long-term safety and freedom of Chami and Felicity depend on public support to make their release permanent.

These dogs have suffered enough. They deserve the simple joys of a loving home, safety, and immediate medical care—all of which the Beagle Freedom Project is ready to provide.

Your voice is their lifeline. You can join the fight to give Chami and Felicity the life they deserve by signing the petition:
