How One Wellness Brand Is Helping America Sleep Better

You know the importance of sleep, but actually getting enough is easier said than done. One wellness brand decided to study the problem and whether CBD could help.

CBD users have long reported feeling calmer and sleeping better, whether taking the compound by itself or with related hemp-derived compounds like CBN and THC. But rumor isn’t research, so CBDistillery conducted two sleep studies: a 2021 study into CBD and CBN, and a 2023 study with technology app Releaf into CBD, CBN and THC.

Study participants who took CBD and CBN reported falling asleep easier and sleeping an hour longer per night, on average. Study participants who took THC as well as CBD and CBN reported improved quality of sleep and waking up more refreshed the next morning.

A New Day for "Man’s Best Friend": Prince George’s County Welcomes Pit Bulls Home

For nearly three decades, a simple physical trait—a broad head or a muscular frame—was enough to make a dog "illegal" in Prince George’s County. But after 27 years of breed-specific legislation, the clouds have finally parted for local pups and the families who love them.

In a landmark 7–0 vote this past November, the Prince George’s County Council officially repealed its long-standing ban on pit bull-type dogs. The air in the council chambers was thick with emotion as advocates, many clad in the purple shirts of the Pet Unity Project, watched a piece of history be rewritten. For many, this wasn’t just a policy change; it was a long-overdue act of compassion.

Moving From Labels to Behavior

The core of the new legislation, championed by Council Chair Ed Burroughs, shifts the focus from what a dog looks like to how a dog acts. For years, the ban relied on "visual identification," a subjective process that often led to heartbreaking consequences for perfectly gentle pets.

"This legislation holds irresponsible dog owners accountable, ensuring that the focus remains on behavior, not breed," Burroughs stated.

The new approach—dubbed the Animal Control Modernization Act—is designed to be smarter and safer:

  • Behavioral Standards: Dogs are now judged on their individual actions rather than their DNA or appearance.

  • Stricter Accountability: The law increases civil penalties for owners of any dog deemed genuinely dangerous.

  • Strengthened Safety: New measures include expanded leash laws and microchipping requirements to ensure responsible pet ownership across the board.

A Lifeline for Local Shelters

Perhaps the most immediate impact is being felt at the Prince George’s County Animal Shelter. Under the old rules, pit bull-type dogs were often deemed "unadoptable" within the county, leading to chronic overcrowding and "urgent lists" for euthanasia.

Hours after the vote, the atmosphere at the shelter transformed. Residents who had previously been turned away were finally able to meet and adopt the dogs they fell in love with. Volunteers shared stories of dogs like Brandy, a 44-pound mix who had been waiting for a chance at a backyard and a family of her own.

A Community United

While some residents expressed natural apprehensions based on past incidents, the prevailing sentiment among advocates is one of education. The goal is to move past the stereotypes and recognize that every dog is an individual.

For the estimated 20,000 to 30,000 pit bulls already living quietly in the county, this repeal means they can finally go for walks in their own neighborhoods without their owners fearing a knock at the door. It’s a victory for fairness, a win for animal welfare, and—most importantly—a warm welcome home for some of the community’s most misunderstood residents.
