Meet Some of the Four-Legged Coworkers Redefining the 9-to-5

Move over, traditional corporate perks. While free coffee and ergonomic chairs are nice, there is a different kind of benefit taking over workplaces this National Take Your Dog to Work Day. From biotech startups and engineering firms to hair salons and senior living communities, dogs aren't just visiting the office—they are practically running the show.

Whether they are providing vital emotional support, "auditing" spreadsheets, or securing the front desk, these six incredible pups prove that everything is better with a tail wag.

Finch: The Co-Working Engineering Consultant

For Finch, a good day at the office involves equal parts networking and napping. When his owner, environmental engineer and project manager Colleen Taggart, worked at Langan Engineering and Environmental Services, Finch was a weekly staple.

"He would mostly snooze at my desk behind me, enjoying the sunshine and his bean bag," Colleen shares. "He would bring so much joy to everyone in the office and even got close with some of my coworkers!"

Finch is such a professional that he actually splits his time between industries. On days he wasn't with Colleen, he’d head over to her husband's structural engineering office at Tuan and Robinson, proving he has a great eye for both environmental and structural design.

Stallion: The Salon Stylist’s Assistant

If you're looking for a fresh look and a side of cuddles, Stallion has you covered. Foster mom Isha Galdamez has been bringing this sweet Muttville pup to her salon, where he has quickly become the ultimate customer service expert. While Isha is busy supervising foils and mastering hair color, Stallion takes on the crucial task of lounging on salon chairs, greeting clients, and keeping laps warm during long appointments. Talk about luxury service!

Izzy: The Biotech Chief Security Officer

At Octave Bio, a biotech startup in Menlo Park, a Muttville alumnus named Izzy has climbed the corporate ladder all the way to the C-suite. According to David Brazel, Izzy has officially been named the company's Chief Security Officer.

It’s a demanding role: Izzy happily trots up to greet every single person who walks through the door. Once his security sweep is complete, he spends the rest of his shift migrating from lap to lap, napping in the afternoon sun, and occasionally begging for popcorn.

Leo: The Academic Cyber-Research Partner

Leo is a dog of high intellect. He regularly accompanies Karen Nershi, an assistant professor at the Middlebury Institute of International Studies, to her co-working space in San Francisco. While Karen is doing heavy lifting—conducting academic research and publishing peer-reviewed papers on how states use cyber domains for international competition and cybercrime—Leo focuses on morale. Whether he's keeping her company at the co-working space or acting as a loyal assistant at home, Leo is the perfect sounding board for international relations.

Andy: The Director of Spiritual Paws

Over at Piedmont Gardens, Andy is putting in some serious hours in the healthcare and wellness sector. He works with his co-owner, Shelly, who serves as the Director of Spiritual Care. Andy takes his job very seriously. When he isn’t out making his rounds and spreading joy to the residents, he can be found sitting at Shelly’s desk, diligently "working" on important documents.

Pearl: The Remote-Work Magic Maker

Who says remote workers can't participate in Take Your Dog to Work Day? Pearl (formerly known as Plush from Muttville) is proving that working from home can be incredibly collaborative. She helps her owner, Erminia, who works remotely for Wizards of the Coast. Pearl's specific area of expertise?

"She plays a mean paw of Magic: The Gathering for social media deck R&D!" says Erminia.

More Than Just a Cute Face

While National Take Your Dog to Work Day is a fantastic excuse to show off our pets, these stories highlight the profound impact dogs have on our work lives. They reduce workplace stress, spark cross-departmental conversations, and bring a sense of comfort to demanding fields.
