Fun Activities to Keep Your Pup Entertained — Even Inside!

When the weather outside is frightful, keeping your dog entertained indoors can be a challenge. Your pup needs mental stimulation and physical activity to stay happy and healthy, whether due to rain, snow, or extreme heat. Fortunately, there are plenty of fun and engaging indoor games to keep your furry friend active and entertained! Here are some of the best indoor games for dogs:

Hide and Seek

Dogs love using their noses, and hide-and-seek is a fantastic way to engage their natural instincts. You can either hide yourself or hide your pup’s favorite toy or treats. Call their name and encourage them to find you or the hidden object. This game provides great mental stimulation and strengthens the bond between you and your dog.

Treat Time—Puzzle Toys

Interactive treat-dispensing toys challenge your dog’s problem-solving skills while rewarding them with a tasty treat. Puzzle feeders, snuffle mats, and treat balls encourage your dog to think and work for their reward, keeping them entertained for extended periods.

Tug-of-War

A classic game of tug-of-war is a great way to burn off excess energy. Use a sturdy rope toy to engage your dog in a fun, controlled tugging session. Be sure to let your dog win occasionally to keep the game exciting and boost their confidence.

Indoor Fetch

If you have enough space, playing fetch indoors can be a great way to keep your pup active. To prevent damage to furniture, use a soft toy or lightweight ball. Hallways or open living spaces work well for a short game of fetch.

DIY Obstacle Course

Turn your living room into a fun agility course using household items. Set up tunnels with chairs and blankets, create hurdles with pillows, or use boxes as platforms. Encourage your dog to navigate the course with treats and verbal praise.

The Cup Game

This is a simple and effective brain game for dogs. Place a treat under one of three cups and shuffle them around. Let your dog sniff and choose the correct cup. This game sharpens their problem-solving skills and enhances their focus.

Training and Trick Learning

Teaching new tricks or reinforcing old commands is an excellent way to engage your dog’s mind. Try teaching fun tricks like “spin,” “high five,” or even how to put their toys away in a basket. Positive reinforcement with treats and praise makes learning enjoyable.

Bubble Chasing

Believe it or not, many dogs love chasing bubbles! Pet-safe bubbles with enticing flavors are even available (and should be used so your pup doesn’t get a pup-set tummy from chomping them). Blow bubbles in a safe indoor space, and watch your pup have a blast trying to catch them.

An Inside Sniffari

Dogs experience the world through their noses, so why not set up a scent game? Hide treats or kibble around the room and let your dog search for them. This will tap into their natural foraging instincts and provide mental enrichment.

Flirt Pole

A flirt pole is a long stick with a rope and toy attached to the end, similar to a cat teaser. This is a great way to engage your dog in high-energy play without requiring too much space. It helps improve their agility and gives them a great workout.
